"Adolf Hitler's youth period in Linz between 1898 and 1907"

When Adolf Hitlers family moved to Leonding, a city app. 3 miles west of Linz young Adolf was a boy of nine years. When he left Linz in 1907 for Vienna he was a youth of 18 years. His father Alois died in 1903 in Leonding where he is burried. His mother Klara moved with the rest of the family to Linz in 1905 where she died in 1907. Adolf finished elementary school in Leonding in 1900. From the fall of 1900 until summer 1904 Adolf Hitler attended the "Realschule" (middle school) in Linz (Steingasse 6). From fall of 1904 Adolf was sent to "Realschule" Steyr, a historical town app. 32 miles south of Linz. In 1905 he dropped out of school and returned to his mothers home in Linz, where he stayed until after her death on December 21, 1907. Early 1908 Adolf left for Vienna.

The walking tour includes the homes Humboldstrasse 31, Bluetenstrasse 9, and the former school building of the Realschule in Steingasse 6, Landstrasse 12, the building where Dr. Eduard Bloch (the family doctor of the Hitler's) had his office.

The main square of Linz with old town hall (Altes Rathaus) where Adolf Hitler spoke to a cheering crowd of approximately 60,000 people who gave a incredible welcome to the emerging dictator will be part of this tour.

Three buidlings that were build on the orders of Adolf Hitler, the two brigde head buidings, and the Nibelungenbruecke (Danube bridge) are also part of this tour. The Hermann Goering steel plant (now VOEST Alpine) for arms production and a chemical plant were constructed and operated in Linz also due to orders of Hitler.

Approximately 14 miles east Hitler had the main concentration camp of Mauthausen to be built on Austrian territory. With its 49 sub camps (satelite camps) it caused death and unthinkable suffering and tragedy to much more than hundred thousand innocent people from across Europe. The city of Linz held three sub camps with thousends of forced slave workers.

Adolf Hitler felt strongly attached to the city of Linz, where he spent much of his youth period. The people of Linz celebrated him like a super hero, when he was elected chancellor of Germany. When he returned to his "Home Town" Linz with the German army in 1938 he was welcomed with incredible emotions and reverence.

We know, it's all history now. The naive and shortsighted dream of many of our ancestors and their blind support for their "Fuehrer" (leader) contributed to lead the entire world into desaster and unspeakable suffering for millions of innocent people.

The purpose of this tour is to help better understand the circumstances that provided a hotbed for ill and criminal behaviour of masses of people, how way many people thought and felt about a hundred years ago and of course, the main goal is to learn from the mistakes and from the evils of the past in order to prevent it from being repeated.
